"In this article we will try to prove that some practices in current web apps have important privacy and security issues both for the user and for the application. To illustrate these issues better we will first analyze the patterns that the main Web 2.0 companies have used when implementing the ?user registration process?. Then, we will go over some of the aspects of the process, such as authentication flow, email confirmation, captchas and sharing information with third parties. This will hopefully help you decide which practices you should use when implementing your app." Saved By: Chris Messina | View Details | Give Thanks

For years I?ve been advocating the use of valid, semantic, accessible, well-structured HTML. It?s a bit of a mouthful to say, but thanks to an acronym being coined on the Microformats IRC channel almost seven months ago, I can now start advocating the use of POSH instead. POSH, in case you haven?t heard of it already, is short for ?Plain Old Semantic HTML?, and is obviously much quicker and easier to say than ?valid, semantic, accessible, well-structured HTML?. Unfortunately POSH is also something most people building websites or creating content for the Web have yet to discover. Perhaps a fancy acronym will help speed up adoption. One of the interesting things about being a serious Windows user is that very little attention is paid to efficient users of Windows, and that we suffer from a lot of folklore or misinformation that gets passed around.
